How to Give Us Access to Your LinkedIn Page

Adding Sagentic Web Design as a LinkedIn Page Admin

To let Sagentic Web Design manage your company's LinkedIn page, you need to add us as an admin. Unlike Facebook, LinkedIn requires a personal connection before this will work, so there is one step to handle first.

Step One: Connect With Us On LinkedIn

LinkedIn only lets you add someone as a page admin if they are already a first, second, or third-degree connection, or if they follow your page. This is a LinkedIn rule, not ours, and there is no way around it.

Send a connection request to whichever of us will be working on your account:

  • Erica Haferkamp, our Creative Director
  • Moriah Gallagher, our Social Media Manager

We will let you know which of us to connect with, and we accept quickly. Once the connection is in place, the rest takes about a minute.

Step Two: Add Us As An Admin

You must be a super admin of the page to do this. If you created the page, you already are.

  1. Sign in to LinkedIn and open your company page. It usually appears in the left sidebar of your home page, under your name and photo.
  2. Make sure you are in the super admin view rather than the public member view.
  3. Select Settings in the left menu, then Manage admins. On some layouts this lives under an Admin tools dropdown in the top right instead.
  4. Select the Page admins tab.
  5. Click Add admin.
  6. Type our name in the Search for a member field and select the correct person from the list.
  7. Choose the role, then click Save.

Which Role Should You Choose?

LinkedIn offers several roles. For most of our clients, one of the first two is the right answer.

  • Content admin can post and manage content, reply to comments, and respond to messages as the page. This is enough for regular social media management and is the safer choice.
  • Super admin has full control, including the ability to edit page information and manage other admins. Choose this if we are rebuilding or overhauling your page. Only give it to people you trust completely.
  • Analyst can view analytics only, with no ability to post.
  • Paid media admin roles are separate and handle advertising. Grant one of these if we are running LinkedIn ads for you.

A useful quirk: a person can hold only one page admin role at a time, but they can hold more than one paid media role. If we are handling both organic posting and ads, you will assign us a page admin role and a paid media role separately.

Common Snags

  • Our name does not appear in the search. The connection request has not been accepted yet, or was sent to a different person with a similar name. Confirm the connection first.
  • There is no Add admin button. You are not a super admin on the page. Whoever created it holds that role and will need to promote you or add us directly.
  • Nobody knows who the super admin is. This usually traces back to a former employee or a previous marketing vendor. LinkedIn has a process for claiming a page you own but cannot access, and we can walk you through it.
  • LinkedIn blocks the change. Verifying your own LinkedIn account often clears this up. Unverified accounts hit more restrictions than they used to.

What Happens Next

Once we have access, we will complete and optimize your page information, post on the schedule we agreed to, respond to comments and messages, and report on what is working.

You stay in control. You can change our role or remove us entirely from the same Manage admins screen at any time. Keep at least one super admin on your page who is not us — ideally you — so you are never locked out of your own page.

Also Setting Up Facebook?

That process works differently and does not require a personal connection. See our guide on how to give us access to your Facebook page.
